# How to Install the Website Header Script
## How do you install the website header script?
Add the header script to the site’s global tag or `` section, and remove any existing hardcoded installation first. In one standard setup, the header script was the only script left on the site after the hardcoded code was removed.
### What should be removed first?
Remove:
1. All existing AVA tools from the site
2. Any existing script placements
3. The existing header script if you are replacing it with a new one
4. The embed script, if the goal is to leave only the header script
### Where should the script be placed?
Place the header script in the global tag or the `` section of the website.
### What script format is used?
The header script uses the Autocorp/AVA asset URL with `modal` and `customCta` features enabled, and it is added with `async defer`.
### Who should make the installation?
The installation can be completed by the site team or by Autocorp implementation support, depending on the workflow in place. For some sites, the preferred approach is to have the script added directly in the header so the implementation team can complete the rest of the setup from there.
### How do you confirm it worked?
After the hardcoded installation is removed and the header script is deployed, verify that the site is loading correctly. Once the correct script is in place, the site should display as expected.
### What if there is both an embed script and a header script?
Remove the embed script and keep only the header script.
